It's a German movie showing the last ten days of Adolf Hitler's rule over Nazi Germany. It was based on a number of historical accounts of the period. Hitler's role is played by Bruno Granz who literally adds vigour and the much-needed intensity to the character. He grasps his character with all his might and his performance is an utter delight to watch. You just can't stop yourself from praising his skills once you see him in the movie. You crave for more from him. Even if you are not a history buff and are not fascinated by historical figures, this movie should be watched for the sake of Bruno Granz and his acting.
The plight of a declining empire is effectively conveyed by the movie. Eva Braun, Hitler's wife and other people living in the Führerbunker are struggling with depression and try to boost their morale by drinking and dancing amidst air strikes by the allied powers. Hitler is seen as an optimist who keeps on formulating plans to defeat his enemies, though his subordinates find the situation hopeless and believe Herr Führer is fighting a lost war.
Thousands of parodies from a couple of scenes from this movie have achieved cult status, a proof of Bruno's exceptional performance. A must-watch movie for history buffs and movie maniacs.
